Microsoft Office 2007

peeves:

Word 2007:

  • Right-clicking on a misspelled word does not always bring up the context menu that includes word suggestions. I’ll update this post with the two step process that you must follow each time you have a misspelled word to correct in Word 2007.

for example, here I have a misspelled word underlined in red:

mis1.jpg

the first time I right click the word I get:

mis2.jpg

which does not give me a list of suggestions for the misspelling. For that I must (a) click away then, (b) re-right click on the mispelled word and then I get the option of relacing it as shown:

Blackberry

Posted by phdblogmeister on November 16, 2007

I just got a Blackberry Curve (8300) and there are a few things I am still getting used to the following “features”:

  1. No ability to switch the phone to silent via an external button
  2. Even when in “silent” mode the speaker will still sound out speed dial digits
  3. Adding a phone number from your “call log” is a painful act of coping the number and launching a separate phone application, searching for the target contact, opening that contact then pasting the number
  4. Moving a phone number within a contact (such as work # to mobile) number requires you select the text, cut the text, then paste the text to the new location
  5. Apparent inability to crop photos before you SMS them
  6. My blackberry makes my computer speakers give off a loud and annoying nosie on an infrequent but persistent basis (if you turn the phone “away” from the speakers, it improves.
  7. I have not yet found a way to make my Blackberry indicate I have an unread SMS message after I have disabled the signal indicator pulse-lighting.

What I like:

  1. Gmail!, Gmail!, Gmail!
  2. Spellchecking of SMS messages
  3. Google maps
  4. Web browsing is ok too…
